Susan Schacter

Taanishi. My name is Susan Shacter (née Foulds), and I am Métis, originally from a little half-breed community on the outskirts of Hinton, Alberta. I moved to Saskatchewan around the age of ten and grew up primarily in Battleford. My Saskatchewan Métis roots are grounded in the communities of Bresaylor, Langmeade, and Lily Plain. Some of my Métis family names include Fidler, Swain, Bremner, Taylor, Macdonald, Adams, Allary, and Asham.

I am the proud mom of beautiful, talented Sidney Ray, an auntie with many nieces and nephews, and now a great auntie as our family continues to grow. I’m also mom to Bella, our fur baby, and life partner to my sweetheart, Seth.

As a lifelong learner, I recently completed a master’s thesis in Political Studies, focused on political trust-building for the Métis Nation.

As part of the Métis Thinkers Network Mentorship Committee, I’ve truly enjoyed connecting with relatives across the Métis homeland and beyond through virtual writing retreats and workshops over the past year.

I am grateful to be part of this network and excited for the journey ahead.
