Makayla Lesann

Makayla Lesann is a research professional and scholar dedicated to advancing Indigenous-led research, ethics, and community self-determination. She currently serves as the Research Partner for Indigenous Focused Research within the Vice-President Research portfolio at the University of Alberta, where she guides institutional grant development and strategic funding for Indigenous research initiatives.

Makayla brings a wealth of experience in provincial project management and academic research, notably collaborating on projects exploring Indigenous research ethics, colonial origin stories, and support systems for Métis post-secondary learners. She is OCAP® certified, holds a MA in Interdisciplinary Studies. Her published work and national presentations reflect a lifelong commitment to centering Indigenous voices and reforming institutional spaces.
