Madeline Burns (she/they) is a Métis person, raised on beautiful Kwantlen, Katzie, Semiahmoo and Matsqui Territory. They completed a Master of Arts degree in the school of Indigenous Governance from the University of Victoria, where she also received her undergraduate degree with a double major in Political Science and Gender Studies. Her master’s research focused on Buffalo rematriation and the implementation of the Buffalo Treaty, while much of her work takes up themes of Indigenous sovereignty, Indigenous feminism(s), queer theory, and more-than-human relations.

They currently live as a guest on, and with responsibilities to, unceded lək̓ʷəŋən territory, working as: an Indigenous Research Liaison for the BC Network Environment for Indigenous Health Research housed at Simon Fraser University, a Research assistant for Dr. Gina Starblanket at the University of Victoria, and a Research Assistant for Dr. Tasha Hubbard in Native Studies at the University of Alberta. Madeline sits on both the Funding Committee and the Bylaws Committee for the Métis Thinkers Network and she hopes to begin her PhD in the Fall of 2026.
