Emma De Sousa (Métis/Portuguese) (she/her) is a museum/heritage professional and curator. She is a citizen of the Otipemisiwak Métis Government of Alberta born and raised in Mohkinstsis, Treaty 7 territory in the northeast of the city. De Sousa descends from Portuguese immigrants from the Azores as well as multiple Métis families originating in the Interlake and Red River Regions of Manitoba (Lamoureux, Fidler, Black, Desjarlais). De Sousa holds a BSc in Biological Anthropology from the University of Calgary and an MA in Cultural Studies, Curatorial Practices from the University of Winnipeg. Her research focus lies in the representation of Métis and mixed cultural identities in museum and gallery spaces. De Sousa is currently based in Banff, Alberta and holds a position in the Curatorial Department of the Whyte Museum, where she works on Indigenous community collection access, emerging Indigenous artist programs, and cultural resource management. She is also a Core Member of Ociciwan Contemporary Art Centre.
