Amanda LaVallee is a Red River Métis scholar and Assistant Professor at the University of Victoria, BC. Her family lines include Vandal, Branconnier, Courchene, Poitras, Delorme, Pilon, Beauchamp, and Normand. She was raised in Speers, North Battleford, and Saskatoon Saskatchewan, and her early life was shaped by Prairie landscapes, community relationships, and the stories that continue to guide her commitments today. These places and the people tied to them inform her understanding of Métis identity, sovereignty, and relational accountability. Amanda’s scholarship is grounded in Métis teachings and responsibilities, approaching research as a relational practice that honours community authority and resurgence. Amanda’s work spans Indigenous‑specific racism in the academy, Métis health and well‑being, identity, and Métis methodologies, with a focus on transforming institutional structures to better support Indigenous presence and leadership.
